Tanzanian Conjoined Twins Dies of Heart Related Issues
Conjoined twins, Maria and Consolata Mwakikuti, have died after suffering respiratory complications at the aged of 21.
The two ladies, who were born conjoined from the navel below, were rushed to hospital six months ago due to heart-related issues.
They shared organs, including their liver and lungs, though they had two separate hearts. On Saturday, the pair died in hospital in Tanzania after failing to recover.
Tanzanian President, John Magufuli, said on social media that he was ‘saddened’ by their deaths.
He added that Consolata and Maria had ‘dreamed of serving the nation.’ The ladies were raised by Catholic charity Maria Consolata, who adopted and named them after their parents, who died when they were young.
